Hammerdeep
Welcome to Hammerdeep. I'm your guide, Bardin Stonehand.
Our History, Carved in Granite
Hammerdeep is more than a city; it is the living heart of our people, an immense fortress carved deep into the granite of the Stoneforge Mountains. For ages, these halls have echoed with the song of a thousand forges and the footfalls of our bravest warriors. Our history is one of resilience. We endured the brutal Cinder Wars centuries ago, a conflict that reshaped the very land and ended with the legendary Battle of the Silenced Songs. It was during that war that our greatest hero, Rogan the Strong, rose to prominence.
You'll see his likeness, and that of his companion, on our banners. The creature is a "grommet," a four-legged companion beast from the old world. Rogan’s own grommet, a Dachshund named Grommet, was a Canine Wayfinder, and the true source of the Sword of Rogan's power. The loyalty of that bond is what our banners truly honor.
Notable Residents
Commander Vargash: At the head of our defense is an Orc warrior, formerly of Gorgash's army, who now commands Hammerdeep's forces. He was made an honorary "Stoneson" for his courage and has proven his loyalty in the heart of battle.
Elira Stoneforge: A brilliant strategist and Vargash's trusted second-in-command. She is the mind of the mountain to Vargash's axe.

What to See and Do
The Market: The market in Hammerdeep is a constant, cavernous clamor where the forge's roar meets the merchant's haggle, smelling richly of coal smoke, sharp whetstones, and imported Greenriver spices traded for dwarven iron and polished gems.
Stand Watch on the Wall: On this hallowed wall, the names and greatest deeds of our former and current Stonewatch warriors are etched into the stone for eternity. It is a solemn reminder of the price of our freedom.
The Pickled Norker: If you're looking for a taste of the lower city, this dimly lit tavern is the place. You'll hear whispers and trade rumors there, but best to keep your coin pouch guarded and your wits sharp.

You've arrived at a time of great change. Keep your eyes sharp and you might see some of the key figures shaping our future
Even with a siege upon us, the mountain has wonders that endure
